![]() As we are well into the first quarter of this year you may already be tempted to give up on your new years resolutions. If those involved eating better and tracking what you eat I have a couple of recommendations for you. I started using both of these apps last year and I still use them on a daily basis. The first app is called “MyFitnessPal”. MyFitnessPal is a free app with a database of over 5,000,000 different foods! Its primary use is to track what you eat on a daily basis. You can set the app up to track your daily caloric intake goal and then track your progress throughout the day. It also has a great barcode scanning feature so you can track almost any food that has a barcode. Another nice feature is the build in step counter. It takes into account the amount of calories you burn walking and adds back calories to your day based on how many calories you have burned walking. This app was recently purchased by Under Armour and so it syncs with their suite of apps including, MapMyWalk, MapMyRide, MayMyRun, and MapMyFitness. This app is extremely user friendly and I expect with the addition of Under Armour support it will continue to expand its capabilities. I highly recommend this app if you need some additional accountability, want a quick and easy way to track your eating habits, and if you are serious about improving your health. ![]() I don’t remember how I found out about FitMenCook but I am glad I did! This is another app that has great usability. The app separates the food into categories such as “Low Carb”, “Vegetarian”, and “Meat”, to name a few. Once you choose your recipe it not only gives you detailed instructions but it also gives you the nutritional values associated with the meal. The creator of the app also has a website (fitmencook.com) with additional recipes and instructional videos. There are many apps that are great and worth investigating but these two are a good start and are great tools to help you live a healthy lifestyle. Please comment on if you use these apps or additional ones you find helpful! J. Matthew King, Co-founder
